Residential Care Workshops - Summer 2010
Health Care Informed (HCI) is pleased to announce its summer schedule of workshops specifically designed for the Irish nursing homes sector. These workshops, which have been developed by HCI in line with industry and international best practice, are offered in response to demand from nursing home managers seeking practical advice and support in relation to meeting the HIQA standards.
The HIQA Entry Programme and Inspection Process - 14th June 2010
A practical workshop to assist Registered Proprietors and Persons in Charge in the management of the HIQA registration process and onsite inspections. Fee: €250
Medication Management and Resident Safety - 21st June 2010
This workshop focuses on the practical approaches to meeting the HIQA and An Bord Altranais requirements relating to the safe management of medication within nursing homes. Fee: €250
Developing Practical Policies and Procedures (utilising ResPaPTM) – 6th July 2010
This workshop focuses on the benefit of effective policies and procedures and provides practical training in how to customize ResPaPTM (a set of 120+ residential care policies and procedures developed by HCI which meet HIQA requirements) for your nursing home. Fee: €1,000, includes the ResPaPTM set of documents plus 2 workshop places per nursing home.
Resident Care Planning and Record Management – 14th July 2010
This workshop looks at how to develop practical resident care plans. Training also focuses on the requirements of record management in line with HIQA and the Data Protection Act. Fee: €250
Nursing Homes Legislation and the Role of HIQA: Coping With New Challenges - 17th July 2010
This workshop explains the laws which govern nursing homes and the role and legal authority of HIQA. It offers an up-to-date analysis of recent developments and provides practical guidance to nursing homes as to how best to meet these new challenges. Fee: €250

John Sweeney, B.Sc. M.Sc.- Director (HCI), Technical Advisor to the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua), initial developer of the HIQA Entry Programme and co-ordinator of the public consultation on the HIQA Residential Care Standards for Older People.
Dr Helen Flint – Director of Nursing, Research and Development (HSE), developer of the Medication Management module for the HIQA Entry Programme, trainer of HIQA inspectors.
Pamela Fagan, B.Sc. H.Dip.Q.H. – Director of Operations (HCI), qualified Australian Aged Care Accreditation Surveyor, Internal Auditor, implementation of residential care systems fulfilling Australian and Irish regulations.
Clodagh Geraghty, B.A., L.L.B., L.L.M. – Director of Research (HCI) and Lecturer in Law (GMIT), particular interest in the area of healthcare regulation, and a research interest in employment and medical law.
Vincent Deane, B. Comm., LL.B. – State Solicitor for Mayo, previously senior prosecution solicitor in the DPP’s office.
Amy Collins, B.B.S. B.A. M.A.Q.H. – Quality and Safety Executive (HCI), qualified Internal Auditor, implementation of residential care systems fulfilling HIQA requirements, development of residential policies and procedures and resident groups.
Serena Horkan, B.Sc.– Quality and Safety Executive (HCI), qualified Internal Auditor, implementation of residential care systems fulfilling HIQA Requirements.
Workshops run from 9.30am to 4.30pm
All course materials, lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Workshops will be delivered at HCI’s dedicated training facility in Abbey House, High Street, Headford, Co Galway, except Medication Management and Resident Safety, 21st June, which is held in The Claregalway Hotel, Claregalway, Co Galway
